Supervised Visitation

Supervised visitation is based on two premises:

  • Children do best when they have reliable, ongoing relationships with both parents.
  • A child’s emotional and physical safety must always be guaranteed.

Whether parents live together or apart, they have a shared responsibility for their children. Most importantly, children do best when they have regular contact with both parents, regardless of the relationship their parents have. Supervised visits allow children to spend quality time with a non-custodial parent in a safe, child-friendly environment. Comprehensive Youth Services provides supervised visitation services on weekdays, weekends, evenings and holidays.

The agency also provides supervised visits to parents and children who are in the child welfare system. Families are referred by their social worker and there is no cost for this service. For more information on this program and other programs offered in partnership with Fresno County Department of Social Services, please see Child Welfare Programs.

Who is eligible for this program?

This program is available to families who have a court order for supervised visits with the child for the non-custodial parent.

What is the cost of this service?

The fee for supervised visitation is $30 per hour. Fees for services are to be paid in full, in exact cash, prior to the start of each visit.

How do I enroll in services?

Both parents must sign up for and attend an Orientation to Supervised Visitation and Exchange for a $25 non-refundable fee. Please call the Supervised Visitation Program at (559) 229-3561, Extension 29 for more details or to register to attend an Orientation.

What are the benefits for my children?

Supervised visits allow children to maintain a relationship with both parents, even when one parent does not have custodial rights. It also allows children to anticipate visits without the stress of wondering what is going to happen and to enjoy visiting with them in a safe, comfortable environment.

What are the benefits for the non-custodial parent?

This program allows parents without custodial rights the opportunity to have regular, uninterrupted contact with their children. Because a monitor is always present during visits, parents are protected from future accusations or problems. Monitors are neutral and objective and document what actually occurs between you and your children during the visit.

What are the benefits for the custodial parent?

As the custodial parent, you are free from having to communicate with or have contact with the other parent, and can be assured that your child has a safe, monitored visit.
