Student Assistance Program (SAP)

The agency’s successful Student Assistance Program (SAP), a collaboration with Fresno Unified School District (FUSD) and other local school districts, provides licensed and license-eligible counselors on more than 25 school campuses in Fresno and Madera Counties.  The SAP program at Fresno Unified School District undergoes an annual third-party annual evaluation to assess the level of penetration of services and overall impact on participating students. Last year, 2,893 students received counseling services provided by Comprehensive Youth Services SAP counselors.  Students participating in the Social and Emotional Support Services program at FUSD in 2010-11 demonstrated a 40% gain in attendance, a 36% reduction in disciplinary referrals, a 36% improvement in academics (ELA), and 51% improvement in academics (math).

Functional Family Therapy (FFT)

Functional Family Therapy (FFT)  is a highly successful, evidence-based, in-home family intervention for at-risk juveniles and those involved with the juvenile justice system.  During the past five years, more than 600 youth and their families have been served through the FFT program at CYS.  Family members include parents/guardians, siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles or any other family member that may play a significant role in the adolescents’ life.  Over 81% of FFT services are provided in the home or the community.  Of youth that have been incarcerated prior to participating in FFT treatment, 87% have not been reincarcerated.
